Some of the more popular activities are snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and four-wheeling along the ITS 82. With so many trails available, you’re sure to have a unique and secluded experience. Other popular trails are the Appalachian Trail, Mt. Katahdin, and Boarstone Mt. for backpacking and mountain biking. You’ll be sure to run into Some of Maine’s amazing wildlife. Sebec Lake, Moosehead Lake and the Piscataquis River are nearby to offer excellent fishing and boating. In the winter months, you’ll find exceptional snow for downhill skiing Moose Mountain and Sugarloaf. Hermon Mountain is known for its Snowboarding and Tubing.
White Water Rafting Tours are available on the Penobscott, Kennebec and Dead Rivers.
There are beautiful state parks in the area great for picnics, hikes and wildlife viewing. Baxter State Park and Peaks Kenny State Park are among the more popular ones. The Katahdin Iron Works is a well-known historic site with a restored blast furnace and a beehive-shaped charcoal kiln that you’ll definitely want to see. Other area attractions include Hollywood Slots Casino and the Center Theatre for Performing Arts.
